“Grace will meet you in the valley, and her song will carry you home on the wind to another sky filled with ethereal beauty unfolding and love everlasting.”

Some will say that ethereal is the beauty of the angels, something too delicate and light that it could not exist in this world. But angels aren’t just things of myths and their symbolism bleeds through in sensations, sounds, and colors. And though it may be tempting to paint your bedroom walls sky blue with fluffy white clouds, there’s much more to be said about ethereal decor.
What is the ethereal aesthetic?
To be ethereal is to be light, soft, heavenly, almost divine. It is an aesthetic grounded in purity but also in nature. Think of the vintage Disney princesses and their fairytale kingdoms. It is that same brightness and levity that this aesthetic aims to convey. A soothing, almost mindless optimism that’s easy on the eyes and the mind.

In our world, etherealness is best represented in nature, be it in the soft colors of the morning skies or the flowers blooming in the meadows. It can also be seen in old classical cathedrals and palaces, through its painted ceilings, extravagant chandeliers, and pale-toned stones.
What does ethereal home decor entail?
Most of us cannot afford to live out our lives in dreamy palaces, with vast gardens to roam through as the seasons change. But there are plenty of ways to bring that lightness indoors, the best way being through ethereal decor.

What you want to ensure through this process is that the room will be light and that most hints of color will come through natural elements.

A good way to do so is by having light textiles (bed sheets, cover, rugs) in white or pale colors of pink, blue, yellow. Hanging renaissance-inspired paintings and images can further help achieve that sense of virtue. Just remember to keep the pictures light and to feature motifs that best suit the ethereal aesthetic, such as angels, florals, and pale skies.

If you feel like keeping a plant alive is too much of a hassle, you could opt for fake plants or even dried flowers, which you could frame, arrange in a vase, or feature in any other creative way you may think of.

Gold accents also work wonderfully, especially in ethereal home decor items, like candle holders or mirrors.
How to achieve the perfect ethereal room decor:

Opt for pale colors whenever possible;

Gold accents work best;
Floral patterns can be a great nod to nature;
Angels and wing motifs bring that heavenly feel;
Hang divine or nature-themed paintings;
Let natural light in whenever possible;
Keep from over cluttering a single space.
